-
Description
A pair of Swedish antique barrel back armchairs from the Gustavian period, circa 1810. These stunning chairs have shaped barrel backs with lion head carvings. The frame features carved bell flowers with front legs adorned with lotus flowers and rosettes. This pair has been newly upholstered in linen. Richly carved and comfortable.
The Gustavian style, named after King Gustav III of Sweden, is a restrained interpretation of the French Louis XV and Louis XVI style. King Gustav III was enamored with the neoclassical style and therefore created his own interpretation for Sweden.
