Description
Available today in NYC with free domestic shipping, these one a kind pair of “Leve” armchairs in hardwood and leather by Joaquim Tenreiro, c. 1942are nothing less than spectacular, chic and comfortable!
The “Leve” (light in portuguese) armchairs was one of Tenreiro’s first attempts to simplify shapes and a breakaway from the overly ornate and complex silhouettes of its time. This iconic design represents one of Brazil’s very first modernist pieces. The feet and armrests merge into one solid and continuous piece, making the chair “float” in mid air. Tonreiro’s goal was to use the least amount of materials in order to create a sense of lightness. This set features solid rosewood legs and armrests, which have been refinished and are in excellent condition. The armchairs have been reupholstered in an aubergine leather. This set belonged to a private residence in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
The "Leve" armchair is an absolute must for mid-century collector but a gorgeous piece like this will look great in a mid-century, modern or contemporary environment. -
