Description
A rare and early example of Arden Riddle’s refined modernist vision, this adjustable lounge chair in black walnut was crafted prior to 1965 and has been fully authenticated despite lacking a signature or date—consistent with Riddle’s pre-1965 production practices.
Beautifully constructed in solid walnut with fluid, sculptural lines, the chair exemplifies the quiet sophistication and meticulous craftsmanship that define Riddle’s legacy.
Known for producing furniture in limited quantities, Riddle (1921–2011) developed a loyal following among collectors and designers for his innovative design solutions and comfort-focused construction.
This chair features his trademark vinyl-clad spring suspension system, offering a surprising degree of ergonomic support and flexibility while maintaining a sleek, low-profile silhouette.
The original upholstery remains in excellent condition, a testament to the chair’s careful use and quality materials. The frame’s warm patina further enhances its character, making this a standout piece for collectors of mid-century American design.
With its adjustable back and refined proportions, this lounge chair functions as both an elegant sculptural object and a supremely comfortable seat.
A rare opportunity to acquire an authenticated, early work by a distinctive voice in postwar American furniture design.
The lounge is in very good vintage condition. -
