The vibrant still life painting features a loosely arranged bouquet of flowers in a red vase.
The flowers exhibit various colors, including yellows, blues, whites, and pinks.
The background, rendered in darker tones with hints of blue and purple, contrasts with the bright floral subject. Expressive brushwork suggests an impressionistic style.
Overall, the composition captures the beauty and vibrancy of the flowers.

KEES VERWEY (1900-1995)
The Dutch painter Kees Verwey grows up in a cultural environment. At a young age he became acquainted with the painting collection of his uncle, the poet Albert Verwey. Through another uncle, the famous architect HP Berlage, the would-be painter meets artists such as Jan Toorop and Richard Roland Holst.
Verwey is therefore determined at a young age to become an artist and attends various art academies, where he is taught by Samuel Jesserun de Mesquita, among others, but in the end he chooses the Haarlem painter HF Boot as his teacher.
Inspiration
It is known that Verwey Haarlem hardly leaves his house and spends most of his time in his studio.
Yet he is very well aware of all movements within contemporary art. He transforms this inspiration into his own idiom, but also knows that he cannot break free from the Dutch painting tradition, with its emphasis on still lifes and landscapes and the technical mastery of Rembrandt and Vermeer.
Master
Within that tradition, Verwey proves to be a great master, who stands out for his fabulous technique and consistent attention to his own universe.
