A CHINESE EXPORT REVERSE-GLASS PAINTING
-
Description
The rectangular landscape scene depicting a couple reciting poetry in front of a lake, with a child and pheasants; within a later giltwood frame.
Often as pairs, outdoor scenes with aristocratic Chinese couples playing music and reciting poetry in a natural environment are very common in Chinese reverse-glass painting. See T. Audric, Chinese Reverse Glass Painting 1720-1820, 2016, pp. 174–180, figs. 43–67, 102, 102 and 108.
