Description
Kenji Yoshida "Oribe" woodblock print, 3/30 Signed, 1968
Offered for sale is an early woodblock print by artist Kenji Yoshida (1924-2009), signed and dated 1968 and numbered 3/30 in the margins. The print is matted and framed under glass as well as being wired and ready to hang.
Shown is a page from the original catalog from the 1993 British Museum for the Kenji Yoshida Exhibition. We have a hardcover-sleeved catalog which will each be included for any purchase of both prints. Ideally, these would remain together. Shown in the images is the other available Kenji Yoshida print that we offer.
Kenji Yoshida (1924-2009) studied art under the great Hayashi Kiyoshi and also Furukido Masaru, before those studies were interrupted by the war. In 1964, Yoshida moved to Paris where he lived until 2009. He trained with the renowned English artist Stanley Hayter, and worked for many years at Hayter's well-known studio Atelier 17. Yoshida is known for his paintings and Woodblock prints.
In 1993 the quality of Yoshida's work was recognized when he was honored to be the first living artist ever to be given a solo exhibition at the Japanese Galleries of the British Museum. During the Festival of Canterbury 2004, his octagonal installation, Sei-Mei, (Life-Force) could be seen in Canterbury Cathedral. In 2006 the Chateau de Blois, in the Loire Valley held a major solo exhibition of his work. The October Gallery has shown regular exhibitions of Yoshida's work since the early 90s, the most recent one being in 2007. - More Information
