UNUSUAL MID 18TH CENTURY 'CONSOLE DE CHASSE' OR 'CONSOLE DE GIBIER'
Unusual Louis XV period walnut console table. Constructed in solid walnut standing on four cabriolet legs terminating in scrolling feet.
The front and sides have a deeply shaped apron with a raised carved edge. Replacement Breche marble top. The feet have been replaced, though not recently. Central France circa 1750.
These large tables would have stood in the halls of large country houses and hunters on returning from a day out would place the days catch of pheasants, mallard,
partridge and other game on them. They are often portrayed in early 18th century paintings of still life.
