Charles Cobb Studio California Cherub Chest Figured Acacia Unique 1980s
-
Description
A Charles Cobb chest hand made at his Californian studio in the early1980s
The profile of this beautifully hand crafted piece reminds me of a bouquet of flowers gracefully drooping over the edge of a large container.
The chest is from his series of one off cabinets titled Cherub Chests..
I spoke with Charles Cobb who confirmed that this cabinet is unique.
The rococo design of the chest with its flowing chiseled upper surface crowns the chest with a subtle surface of shadow within white chiseled waves that flow down the sides.
Another eye-catching aspect of this chest is the book matched acacia drawer fronts edged in cerulean blue with ebony pulls..
Curly maple and walnut make up the drawer interiors and cabinet interior. with rosewood accents gives the cabinet a very strong visual presence
The cabinet is in excellent vintage condition. -
