Description
Fred Brouard rare coffee table with abstract sculptural gilt bronze base and rectangular plate glass top, France, 1970s. This exquisite coffee table has a dynamic and organic curved gilt bronze base resembling a stylized bird in flight. The rectangular glass top has slightly rounded corners and is made of a low iron tempered plate glass.
Made in limited edition, signed and numbered "F BROUARD 5/8" on the base.
After studying at the Beaux-Arts in Rouen where he followed the teaching of the painter Savary and the sculptor Leleu, Fred Brouard joined the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1964. After serving for a time as assistant to sculptor Alicia Penalba, Brouard was able to begin exhibiting his creations. Having moved on to metal, he showed some of his pieces at the International Exhibition of Jewelry and Contemporary Art in Montreal, Canada in 1970. From there, he went on to open his own workshop in 1973, and began collaboration with the interior designer Emilio Maccioni, for whom he made some of his most unique functional creations in bronze.
In 1978 his first solo exhibition took place at the Espace Ecureuil in Paris. He then had his bronzes polished at Louis Privat, the best worker in France, who conveyed to him the concern for perfection. Enjoying a solid reputation in the 1980s, Fred Brouard increased his exhibitions on an international scale: European Sculpture Biennale in 1982, the Museum of Modern Art in Paris in 1986, the Odeon Gallery in 1990, etc. -
