PAIR OF MONTREAL PAVILLION CHAIR with Kvadrat fabric by Christen Sorensen (1967)
-
Description
Pair of armchairs by Christen Sorensen, manufactured by Ebena LaSalle Furniture INC for the pavilions of the 1967 Universal Exhibition in Montreal. The chromed metal base supports a swivel seat in white lacquered fiberglass. Restored by professional craftsmen, upholstered with new blue fabric from Kvadrat. Uncommon, these two seats with a seventies design combine aesthetics and comfort.
Christen Sorensen (1921-2015): After working in the Danish furniture industry for twelve years, Christen Sorensen pursued design studies at the School of Arts and Crafts in Copenhagen, surrounded by the most famous emerging designers: Hans J. Wegner, Borge Mogensen, Jorn Utzon… He subsequently opened his own furniture design and production studio in Copenhagen, and some of his chairs were exhibited at the Milan Triennale in 1955. A year later, he settled in Montreal and designed various airport development projects and pavilions for the 1967 Universal Exhibition. Today, some of his creations have joined the permanent collection of the Center Pompidou in Paris. -
