Shima Shanti isa contemporary painter working in the ancient art form of painting with molten beeswax and fusing with fire called Encaustic. "As Far as I Dare Go" is inspired by the meeting place of land and sea where earth and water merge; the fleeting moment between time and space where one gives way to the other. Up to 50 layers of molten beeswax mixed with earth pigments are painted on custom-made Russian Baltic birch panel then each layer is fused with the flame of a torch. The unique beauty of encaustic are bubbles, ripples and markings on the smooth-texture, high-gloss surface. Choosing of all natural earth elements combined with Shima's minimal aesthetic create patina and texture that is storied, translucent, and luminous. In this simplicity unexpected levels of complexity surface. Her inspiration is borne from growing up in the endless abundance of water and big sky of Montana. This connection to nature has gifted her with an innate sense of color and composition.
