Vintage 20th Century Stübben Siegfried Jumping Saddle

Offered is a vintage Stübben Siegfried jumping saddle dating to the 1970s-80s. Sleek in their designs, most jumping saddle designs allow the horse freedom of movement whether jumping, running, or moving quickly across rugged terrain. With the development of horsemanship for sport, and with events such as foxhunting that required riders to jump over fences and gallop through rough land, a versatile saddle was preferred. This saddle's flaps have minimal padding. It is offered without stirrups.

In 1894, Johannes Stübben founded his saddlery business in Krefeld, Germany, on the Lower Rhine. The family-run company flourished during the horse and carriage age of the late 19th century and outfitted calvary regiments in the German Imperial Army. Stübben continued to grow and expand their product line, despite economic hardships of two World Wars.

In the early 50s, Stübben was introduced in the United States markets. Their American wholesalers recommended that they add model names to their saddles to help market and identify their saddle, and to relay the saddle's country of origin.  Stübben followed this advice and the first saddle they introduced was called the “Siegfried,” named after the famous Nibelung saga. Over the years the “Siegfried” and its later editions became the world’s best-selling model, saddles in which many Olympic gold medals and world championships were won.

CONDITION:

Overall good vintage condition. No severe wear, besides obvious wear due to use. Indentations to leather, specifically along flaps where stirrup leather would lie. This saddle retains its dark chestnut coloring and sturdy structure.  Stamped "Siegfried" and "Made in Switzerland" in white, blind-stamped with serial number, with original "Stübben Riding Equipment" sticker attached. Sold as is.
