Description
In his series No Sé Quién Vivió Aquí, artist Sam Melendez combines his a masterful eye for narrative and characters with his trademark grit, and love of vintage colors. The large noses on the figures found in the series represent masks - obscuring the wearer, while also drawing attention to their individuality and cheeky caricature. A group of 4 - or maybe more - of these small paintings in a bright living space, or as an accent in an airy walkway, are sure to bring a smile to all those who you welcome into your home.
About Sam Meléndez:
Sam Meléndez combines his love for all things vintage and bright colors from his home, Puerto Rico, in his work. Evidence of his process is an integral component of his paintings, creating an authentic personal narrative alongside the subject he depicts. For this reason, the grit that charcoal marks leave behind and the notes he makes while sketching the pieces are important to the final compositions. "I love the combination of the raw, black and white of the charcoal and bare canvas contrasted with the super bright colors I work with." -
