Early 20thC American Needlepoint Sampler Circa, 1920.

$ 865
  • Description
    Early 1900's American sampler, under glass; nicely, professionally mounted and displayed in appropriate contemporary black frame with narrow red inset. Hand cross stitched on linen; a red tiled roof house surrounded by trees decorates the top section (probably the maker's dwelling); beneath is a saying in blue letters;
    "Dear house you're really very small---just big enough for love--that's all."

    In the bottom section are two figures wearing top hats in tan and red, a male and female, walking through a pink and green floral arbor. All portraying an idyllic setting. The border is a continuous blue, red, and black geometric rectangular pattern which frames the needlepoint.

    Condition is very good and completely original with no tears or repairs of any kind; there is some "age" spotting here and there, mainly on the left side inside the border (see images). There is no fading and the colors are strong; all in all, it is a nicely made needlepoint sampler.
