Description
Extremely rare Kasuga Joku Lacquer Table with Metal Fittings; The linear oblong table top is supported by a rectangular apron with tow pierced cloud-shaped panels. This upper part rests on cabriole legs curved thickly outward, providing a final graceful bend outward again near the bottom tapering off in a scroll. The shoulders of the legs are lappet-headed shaped. The surface consists of a reddish-brown color mottled with black lacquer and has mother-of-pearl inlaid designs of flowerheads and vines (hosoge); the top of the table is plain lacquer. The table is fitted with bronze mounts on its edge and apron corners and feet. Bibliography for examples of Kasuga tables: Exhibition of National Treasures of Japan.
