    Large 19th century French oil/canvas titled ‘Byblis’, by Pierre Poujol. In Greek mythology Byblis or Bublis was the daughter of Miletus. Her mother was Eidothea, she was acknowledged for her love for her brother Caunus. Unable to keep her love a secret from him, he ran away disgusted. When she found out he had fled she tore her clothes and stripped naked in sorrow and was driven into madness.

    Very finely painted and resting in a large 19th century gilt carved wood frame. Signed on bottom left Poujol and dated 1898.
