Description
"This is a very important and early example. Only the 8th Long Chair with Free-Form Arm ever made which still incorporated the sea-grass woven through the back.
The early version, first designed in 1947, had a long support for adjusting the back and was offered in either cotton webbing or twisted grass for the seat and back, with an optional foam-rubber pad which was discontinued after 1954. It is reminiscent of pieces by both Antonin Raymond and Charlotte Perriand."
Designed in 1947, this Early Nakashima Long Chair exhibits a unique element found on early versions, an adjustable back support. Originally crafted with either cotton webbing or twisted grass, this model features the cotton webbing. The incorporation of sea-grass is a pivotal design element found in early examples. Notably, Mira has recently adopted the use of sea-grass in her recent Long chairs. Its design resonates with the signature touches of renowned designers Antonin Raymond and Charlotte Perriand, making this piece an excellent representation of iconic Nakashima designs.
