Karl-Erik Ekselius six chairs made of wood, straw, and fabric, Sweden, 1950s

$ 3,958
  • Description
    Group of six chairs made of wood, straw, and fabric, produced in Sweden by JOC Mobler Vetlanda and designed by Karl-Erik Ekselius in the 1950s.

    Nordic European design has always been distinguished by the warmth that the refinement of lines, combined with materials, brings forth. The neutral-colored fabric, the natural hue of wood, and the subtle transparency of woven straw. This set of chairs, designed in the 1950s by Karl-Erik Ekselius, encapsulates the entire philosophy of furniture design that the Swedish design school has made internationally renowned and appreciated. It embodies a way of living that minimizes excessive decoration to emphasize the form and function of objects. This approach is softened by a need for comfort, suggested by the chair’s pleasant upholstery, while the presence of the woven backrest, discreet yet valuable, meets a demand for formal elegance.

    Throughout his career, Ekselius integrated his design ideas to create a recognizable style, which was continued by his son in the 1970s, who also achieved success with his own creations. The presented chairs are original pieces from the era, restored in both the wooden parts and the upholstery. This specific model was presented at the Triennale in Milan during the 1950s.
