Description
Enrico Botta Lamp, Fiberglass Elements, Suspension Plane, Sundown Edition, 1968
This suspension lamp, designed by Enrico Botta in 1968, features fiberglass elements of various sizes. These elements, twisted and juxtaposed with a naïve spirit, impart an unusual lightness to the piece. The innovative use of fiberglass, a material of clear industrial origin, explores its expressive potential in the realm of decoration.
The pattern of the plastic laminate is composed of extremely thin fibers arranged in an apparently random order. This results in an aesthetically intriguing texture that, when illuminated, reveals depth of color and a richness of shades. The method chosen to assemble the various elements of the lamp is remarkably simple. The concept behind this creation seems to be the pursuit of a form in constant evolution—organic, fluid, and as fragile as light itself.
Other works by Enrico Botta delve into this aspect of exploration, but with the "Suspension Plane" lamp of 1968, the designer reaches the pinnacle of his production.
