Carlo De Carli dining chairs Model 634 by Figli di Amedeo Cassina, Italy, 1950s

$ 25,410
  • Description
    Set of eight walnut and velvet fabric chairs, produced by Cassina, model 634, designed by Carlo De Carli in the 1950s.

    The essence of Italian design, which characterizes mid-1950s furniture and architecture, is encapsulated in these chairs designed by Carlo De Carli for Cassina. The chairs feature splayed legs, angles that avoid 90 degrees as much as possible, and sinuous volumes. Noteworthy is the intentional inclusion of a pleasantly rounded, almost organic surface in the side supports of the seat. This creates an engaging aesthetic interplay between the fabric-upholstered seat and the sculpted wooden curves. The finesse of this design lies in its ability to ensure solidity and functionality in a chair whose forms challenge traditional cabinetry.

    This is achieved through the expertise of Carlo De Carli, a prominent figure in 20th-century design, remembered for winning the first Compasso d'Oro award and for his fruitful collaboration with Cassina. These chairs are identified in the company's catalog of the period with the number 634.

    The set presented is original from the period and has been completely restored, including the wooden parts and the cotton velvet upholstery.
