Augusto Romano Round Side Table in Beech and Rope, Italy 1948
-
Description
A simple basis of actually three elements is what makes this side table appear so effortlessly elegant. Four legs, a beech wood top with a raised edge finished with rope is what the table consists of.
Augusto Romano is the designer responsible for this lovely creation. He is a celebrated architect and furniture designer who drew his inspiration mainly from the works of the Scandinavian modernists. This would explain the light design of this table.
Design
The ratio of the round top to the legs is phenomenal as the top overhangs just enough to create a small shadow effect. The legs then take over and look architectural due to the narrow recess left between each leg. As mentioned earlier, the edge of the leaf is decorated with a braided rope that is tied with reeds every six centimeters.A diffused yellow-gold glow of the patinated beech wood is the icing on the cake.
Condition
Apart from discolorations on the top and light superficial scratches, this item is in beautiful vintage condition. -
