Description
20th Century Kubbestol Pine Chair. Sweden.
A Kubbestol is a traditional Scandinavian chair carved from a single section of a log, or kubbe, and has been in use since the Middle Ages. The chair is hollowed out and shaped, then cured for several months. A piece of wood is cut and fitted into the hollow to form the seat, and the trunk base of the log is used as the chair seat support, rather than legs. The back of the chair continues upward from the seat in a curved shield, while the base (from the seat down) is cylindrical. -
