Large pair of antique French marble and ormolu candelabra by Paul Sormani

$ 95,000
  • Description
    Large pair of antique French marble and ormolu candelabra by Paul Sormani
    French, Late 19th Century
    Height 210cm, width 40cm, depth 34cm

    Crafted in the elegant Louis XVI style by Paul Sormani (French, 1817-1877), this pair of candelabra would beautifully illuminate one’s space.

    Each of the six-light candelabra is formed in the shape of a flower-filled vase. The base is crafted from an attention-grabbing Royal Rouge marble, its surface filled with maroon and white speckles. Various parts of these are mounted with ormolu adornments, the most prominent being the acanthus-shaped handles. The vases are supported by an ormolu spreading socle foot on a circular plinth. Topping each vase are six branches terminating with flowers and candles.

    The candelabra stand on magnificent pedestals crafted in a similar manner. Large scallops, garlands, and other nature-inspired motifs fill the superb ormolu stands. The three legs on which they stand are scrolled, terminating with further scrolls and a triangular plinth. In between each leg is an oval Royal Rouge marble panel framed by an ormolu cartouche. The upper frieze bears the Sormani mark.
