"Capanno" Sculpture in Lime Wood by Giuseppe Rivadossi, Italy 1974

$ 18,850
  • Description
    After decades of development, the Brescian master woodworker and virtuoso Giuseppe Rivadossi resides at a uniquely elevated position. His works, which often show a masterclass of bizarre woodworking techniques, are also the manifestation of a deep philosophy where people and nature take center stage. In the book “Il Custode del tempo” about an exposition of his oeuvre in Verona, it is explained that there is no doubt that Rivadossi's works have always had the spirit of so-called archetypes. An archetypal model of memory and a sign of the cosmos in which we live. This may sound a bit vague, but it is necessary to be able to interpret this object/sculpture in addition to its aesthetic qualities.

    Design
    This object named Capanno which means shed is essentially similar to, for example, the Arks that Rivadossi created in the same period and represents a beacon of hope, a refuge for all living beings in the midst of chaos, and resonates deeply with the artistic ethos of the Maestro.When we look at this object we see a kind of anthropomorphic figure sitting on a wooden beam. Due to the opening at the front and the slot at three-quarter height, it also looks a bit like a building. The entire structure consists of beautiful linden wood that has been crafted in a truly phenomenal way. Fifteen lightly engraved lines run completely around the object, accentuating the voluptuous shapes. The curves that transition into sharper parts provide a reflection of the light when it hits the surface of the wood.

    Condition
    This Capanno is signed and dated on the right. Exactly under the groove, a piece of lime wood is inserted where previously a knot was. This is original.This exact object is shown together with Igloo's and Arche's on page 58 of the book "Giuseppe Rivadossi, il custode del tempo".
