Description
This large footed charger has beautiful abstract expressionist gestures in the glaze. It is solid and heavy and in great shape. It is signed and dated on the underside. In 1954, after founding the art ceramics department at the Otis College of Art and Design, his style became solidified. In 1984, Voulkos was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship for Fine Arts. His work is held in MOMA, The V&A, The Met, the Smithsonian and many more important national and international museums.
