John Grande

American, 1969
John Grande is a New York-based artist known for his thought-provoking constructed paintings, sculptures, and murals that engage with modern and contemporary culture. Drawing inspiration from a wide range of influences—from Old Master techniques to 19th-century artistry, and 20th-century advertising and Pop Art—his work reflects a diverse array of subjects. Grande’s themes often range from glamorous Hollywood icons to the nuances of street art, frequently incorporating humor and recognizable imagery.
His dynamic, layered paintings explore American dreams, fantasies, and cultural practices, sometimes transforming walls into spatial narratives. Grande frequently pays homage to art history and other artists, making every aspect of society a potential subject for his playful yet critical visual commentary.
The essence of Grande’s work lies in its vibrant colors and unexpected juxtapositions, offering a multi-dimensional perspective on contemporary life. He aims to resonate with a wide audience, stating, “It’s about the people, about us, the human race.” Each piece is unique, deconstructing and reconstructing elements of popular culture within today’s multimedia landscape, while skillfully merging high-end symbols and icons with industrial materials.
Born in 1969 in Huntington, Long Island, Grande studied at the School of Visual Arts, earning his BFA in 1995. After graduation, he moved to NYC and worked as a professional C Printer Tech in a Tribeca photo lab. His artwork has been showcased in solo and group exhibitions worldwide, including cities such as New York, Boston, Miami, Los Angeles, and internationally in South Korea, Italy, India, and Canada. His pieces are collected globally, reaching collectors from India to Switzerland and across the United States.
