This antique Iranian pencase (known as a Qalamdan) is a typical product of the Persian Qajar period in the 19th Century, when craftsmanship flourished. Built from wood, the exterior of the case is lacquered with images of figures and trees. It has rounded ends and can be opened to reveal a sliding tray.
