English 19th Century Solid Pine Cricket Table
-
Description
A fantastic English cricket table, made of solid pine, from the 19th century. These charming antiques make stylish side or occasional tables though they were made with a utilitarian purpose. Used as a scoring table in the game of cricket, its three legged construction makes it steady on uneven ground and pays homage to the three pins – called stumps – used in gameplay. This table is wonderfully patinated, with a wide round top and triangular shelf below, said to keep players’ beer out of the sun while at bat. This table is a classic example of these uniquely British antiques and dates to 1840.
