Impressive 19th Century Bronze Ormolu Mounted Cut Glass Covered Urn
-
Description
This important pair of Empire period vases, crafted in France during the first half of the 19th century, showcases exceptional artistry and refined elegance. The vases, made from exquisite cut crystal (presumed to be of Russian manufacture), are adorned with gilt bronze mounts and feature spectacular handles in the shape of swans, adding a touch of grandeur and sophistication.
Each vase exhibits a balustered shape with a gracefully tapered neck, enhanced by intricate gilt bronze ormolu mounts. The design includes two bronze swan sculpture side handles and a bronze cone finial top, all elegantly resting on a squared base with detailed floral motifs and four ornate paw feet. The combination of cut crystal and gilt bronze creates a striking visual contrast, making these urns suitable for both classic and modern settings.
While one urn has a small hairline crack in the finial top, both pieces remain in excellent antique condition. These vases are not merely decorative items but masterpieces that command attention, measuring approximately 64 inches tall, 17 inches wide, and 12 inches deep. They are perfect for adding a touch of opulence to any environment. -
