Wall Sconce Model "418B" by Hans Bergström for Ateljé Lyktan, Sweden 1950s

$ 1,425
  • Description
    Swedish architect-designer Hans Bergström was the owner and creative director of the lighting firm Ateljé Lyktan, which he founded in Åhus in 1934. Bergström created amazing lighting in various models - including this beautiful '418B' wall lamp model.

    Guided by the mantra, “Light must be white and shine freely,” Hans Bergström designed and produced functional and modern fixtures that were intended to brighten up entire spaces. Bergström was Ateljé Lyktan’s creative director for three decades, and, up until the beginning of the 1960s, the company’s sole designer. This wall lamp model is among his most distinctive designs and represents his style in its purest form, both in terms of aesthetics and functionality. The modernistic look of this lamp is achieved by the simple, yet smart design of the brass and acrylic glass silhouette, with the brass acting as delicate details of the frame rather than overpowering the streamlined geometric shade. The look is almost industrial, yet has the edge of Swedish mid-century design. Since the two materials - brass and acrylic glass - dictate the look, much attention was paid to their quality, and to the craftsmanship that united this combination into the lamp's rectangular shape to create a timelessly modern look. This lamp effortlessly shows off Bergström’s creativity that he always paired with structural precision and material quality.

    Furthermore, as this '418B' model showcases, Ateljé Lyktan was rightfully renowned for the poetic beauty and high quality of its products. Bergström had a modernist approach based on quality and attention to detail, and was the favourite lighting designer of many fellow architects, among them Bruno Mathsson.
