Description
Set of six chairs, "Tre Stecche" model, green-stained beechwood, woven straw seat, Chiavari manufacture, 1960s, SAC production
The art of chair-making in Chiavari, with its centuries-old heritage, has always flourished thanks to the skill and ingenuity of local craftsmen. Over the years, it has evolved into countless designs, following international tastes, fashions, and trends. The Chiavari chair has become an interpreter of various stylistic and cultural movements. The model presented here, called "Tre Stecche" (Three Slats), takes its name from the distinctive design of the backrest, featuring three horizontal wooden slats. First produced in the late 1940s, this model has proven to be highly versatile, fitting seamlessly into a range of living and furnishing contexts. Its design was also appreciated by renowned architects, making appearances in the periodical Domus, often complementing interiors designed by Marco Zanuso.
This set of chairs has been fully restored, both in its beechwood structure and color. The finish chosen is a matte olive green, which complements the clean and linear design of the chair. The seat is crafted from handwoven Indian cane, offering a lightweight contrast to the warm green tone of the wood. This set, with its combination of vibrant green and natural straw, is well-suited for both domestic settings—such as around a large dining table—and public spaces like bars and restaurants, where the artisanal craftsmanship and refined design create a striking impression.
The production of these chairs is tied to the historic SAC (Società Artistica Chiavari), a factory that, though no longer operational, holds a significant place in the history of the iconic Chiavari "Light Chair" for the quality and elegance of its designs.
