Description
Two Louis XV Period Rococo Style Marble Sculptures of Cherubs
French, 18th Century
Height 90cm, width 60cm, depth 60cm
Superbly carved from subtly veined white-grey marble, this pair of cherub sculptures were crafted in the Louis XV period in the 18th Century, at the height of the Rococo style. Each sculpture depicts a winged cherub, seated and glancing downwards. One holds a cornucopia of flowers and fruit, with the other leaning on a piece of draped cloth with its legs crossed. They are masterfully carved, with great detailing apparent in their hair, wings, and drapery. -
