Offering - Symbolic Landscape Painting, Anselm Kiefer Inspired Art
-
Description
This captivating painting features a dynamic interplay between nature and man-made objects, with cascading waterfalls forming a serene backdrop for symbolic objects in the foreground. The contrast between the soft, earthy tones of the natural landscape and the bright, ritualistic elements creates a sense of spiritual contemplation. The painting, titled "Offering," evokes a balance between the human and the natural, making it ideal for interior spaces that aim to promote a sense of reflection and harmony.
The juxtaposition of objects, reminiscent of the assemblage works of Joseph Cornell, brings a meditative quality to the piece, while the powerful natural elements in the background echo the raw materiality found in Anselm Kiefer’s paintings. The bold use of red accents against the muted tones of the natural environment gives the painting a contemporary edge, making it suitable for both modern living rooms and contemplative spaces like offices or libraries. The structured arrangement of the objects is architectural, adding a layer of order and symbolism that draws viewers into the artwork.
Boston-born Gregory Kitterle creates surrealist paintings with long-lost techniques reminiscent of Pompeian frescoes or seventeen-century masters. His compositions are theatrical assemblages of fragments of reality, often with dramatic lighting with no preconceived narrative content, to engage the viewer in the creative act by allowing autonomy of interpretation. The surface engages the eye with the polished lusciousness of traditional fresco, and drawing guides it through the irregularities of its surface. This contradiction between figurative content and painterly rendition creates a timeless environment, as fragments of our contemporary world emerged in an archaeological find. Kitterle wants the viewer to experience his art almost as a journey, as he states: "The influence for my work stems from my interest in how the eye leads and is lead. The majority of how and what one sees is fragmentary and laced with ambiguity". -
