Round-Topped Tapered Frame Side Tables

These are hand-made, round-topped versions of my existing Tapered Frame side table design. Constructed in all solid walnut, these clean-lined, spare tables also have fine, subtle joinery details. The slim, reverse tapered legs are joined to the offset top rails with pegged, through tenons (see final detail image). The lower shelf is two-piece with a central 1/8" gap that allows necessary room for expansion of the solid wood while also creating a visual break in the surface (see next to last detail image). The 3/4" thickness of the shelf material is notched to appear as a slim1/4" where it contacts the rails below it. The 3/4" top is slightly undercut around the perimeter so that it presents as a slightly thinner 5/8" thickness. Finished with a durable satin conversion varnish on the top, and a satin hardwax finish on the base, these tables could be re-created in different woods, sizes and finishes.
