Description
Harvey Ellis was trained as an architect and worked for architect H.H. Richardson before starting his own practice in Rochester, NY.
According to Isabelle Anscombe in Arts & Crafts in Britain and America, Gustav Stickley, who thought Ellis a gifted designer, hired him in April 1903. The position would only last until January 1904, when Ellis died of alcoholism. This short-lived association makes these inlaid pieces very rare.
Signed with 1902 closed box mark. -
