Bethesda fountain Central Park in Snow With Purple Umbrella
-
Description
A woman in a purple umbrella is captured in front of Bethesda Fountain Central Park in a driving snowstorm. Her formal pose perfectly aligns with the bronze sculpture so that one element echoes another. The rising arches of the Bethesda Terrace frame the composition. The overall pattern of the snow simplifies the image so that it is simultaneously misty and graphic while harmonizing its component parts. Finally, the brown color of the figure's coat is picked up the the brown architecture.
