Dagmar Ackerman: Glass Artist and Designer

Born in Czechoslovakia, Dagmar Ackerman migrated to Australia in 1954. In 1981, she founded TCG Graphic Design, which quickly established itself as one of Sydney’s premier graphic design consultancies, producing high-end corporate communications for large organizations.
In 1997, Dagmar enrolled in an introductory glass course at the Sydney College of the Arts. It was during this course that she discovered her passion for glass as her chosen medium. Since then, she has participated in numerous courses to develop her skills and experiment with various techniques.
Dagmar's fascination with glass is profound; she is drawn to its apparent fragility alongside its remarkable strength. Her early works focused on the visual impact of light and color, employing vibrant hues and strong graphic shapes that reflect her background in graphic design. She continues to leverage her graphic experience in her glass designs, while also drawing inspiration from influences such as Oriental Art.
In March 1999, Dagmar established her glass studio in Rozelle and achieved Craft Mark accreditation in early 2000. Now a full-time glass artist, she creates both commercial and artistic glass pieces.
Her latest body of work is inspired by the unique Australian landscape, utilizing new techniques to emphasize the ever-changing yet timeless essence of nature in Australia.
