A Nakashima Conoid Lounge Chair.
-
Description
A truly gorgeous piece of craftsmanship, this Conoid lounge chair is perhaps one of the most beautiful pieces we've ever handled.
The expressive Claro walnut seat along with the sublime geometric configuration of the chair will leave you in genuine awe.
Introduced in 1961, the Conoid line was inspired by the curved vault and outward-facing, lyrical space of Nakashima’s Conoid Studio. This example was designed by George Nakashima (1905-1990) and then executed by Mira Nakashima (born 1942) who is an architect and furniture maker. She is the daughter of George Nakashima and is now the President and Creative Director for George Nakashima, Woodworker.
The chair is signed underneath the seat. A digital receipt of the original sale invoice is also available after completion of the sale.
George Nakashima's philosophy included reverence for beautiful wood and emphasis on using "wood in the simple forms which he evolved from both Japanese and early American tradition."
