Description
Irma Claesson learned to design beautiful ceramics during her years at Rörstrand, a Swedish porcelain workshop famous since 1726. While there she met her husband, Henry Yourstone and together they started Yourstone Keramik in 1942. By the 1960s, Irma Yourstone was also creating freelance designs for notable Scandinavian ceramics firms including Upsala Ekeby, Bo Fajans, Steninge, and Laholm. This mirror’s rough surfaces and small studs of crystalized glass place it firmly in a modern Brutalist context, while echoing the rustic simplicity of earlier Swedish country style. Its thick ceramic glazes bring out beautiful blue hues.
