Great small rationalist desk with its chair , perfect for small spaces .
Wood has been polished but with some signs of use , structure in original conditions with lack of chroming of the metal

In 1933, the Milanese industrialist Angelo Luigi Colombo – whose company in Lambrate, Milan, specialized in the production of metal tubes with many uses, such as the construction of airplanes or bicycle frames – decided to meet the architect Marcel Breuer, to ask him about his tubular steel furniture. In the metal laboratories at the Bauhaus, starting from the mid-1920s, the architect had in fact first experimented with its use for furniture with the Wassily armchair (1925) but above all with the cantilevered Cantilever Chair (1926). On a business card, Breuer noted for Colombo the name of the newly formed Zurich company Wohnbedarf, founded by the historian and critic Sigfried Giedion and the architect Werner Moser, who owned the rights to its furnishings. Following Breuer's recommendation, Angelo Luigi Colombo will sign an agreement to create exclusively and under license, under his Columbus brand, furniture by Breuer and other architects of the Bauhaus and Swiss-German school, such as Flora Steiger or Werner Moser. In 1933 Wohnbedarf, whose visual identity was designed by Max Bill, had opened a shop in Zurich, again based on Breuer's design - which remained for many years, well after the Second World War, an important reference for the distribution of the sector - and began to produce furniture by, among others, Alvar Aalto, Alfred Roth or Giedion himself.the architect Giuseppe Terragni - and before him Giuseppe Pagano, turned to Columbus for the metal tube furnishings of the Como buildings of the second half of the 1930s, such as the Casa del Fascio or the Sant'Elia asylum. Among Italian designers, another prestigious collaboration of Columbus was with Piero Bottoni, on the occasion of the VI Milan Triennale in 1936, Columbus' story is an important one for the history of Italian design
