Description
Contemporary rug (2015) in wool and silk hand-knotted in Tibet (125,000 knots per m2). Based on a drawing by Florian Pretet for Atelier Février.
By transforming a traditional eye-shaped amulet that is supposed to protect against the evil eye into a contemporary rug, Nazar illustrates the blend of cultural heritage and modern design of the Atelier Février brand.
In very good condition, this carpet was acquired by a collector in 2015. This is one of the very first rugs made by Atelier Février. A deep cleaning will be carried out for sale by a carpet care specialist.
Of singular beauty, Atelier Février’s carpets represent a synthesis of contemporary art combined with traditional craftsmanship and know-how. Founded by French designer Florian Pretet and approaching the rug as an artist would a canvas, it seeks to faithfully reproduce its rich and meticulously modeled patterns in a functional three-dimensional format. Each rug is the result of local hand-knotted Himalayan techniques that have been passed down for generations. The carpets of the Atelier Février are distinguished by the fact that no machines or chemicals are involved in their manufacture. Every step of the process – from the shearing of the sheep to the final washing of the carpet – is carried out by hand, requiring the combined effort of more than 50 craftsmen. The production method starts with the vibrant and detailed designs, which are then hand-knotted by the expert local weavers (125,000 knots per square metre). All materials are of exceptional quality: the carded and hand-spun wool comes from Tibet and the silk is of the best quality available in China. The result: highly coveted and naturally beautiful functional art objects, featuring an unexpected fusion of cultures and styles. -
