Description
17TH CENTURY AUBUSSON VERDURE TAPESTRY
In the centre distance of the tapestry is a large chateau sitting in a formal garden with topiary trees and paths designed in a geometrical pattern in the French style of André Le Nôtre, garden designer for Louis XIV. This view is framed by trees laden with fruit and leaves, and flowers in the foreground, and two pheasants standing opposite one another.
The central panel is surrounded by an elaborate border decorated with a central cartouche on each side surrounded by baskets and vases of flowers, exotic birds and monkeys playing musical instruments.
The tapestry is in very good condition with excellent colours and is finely woven in wool and silk.
It has been backed with linen.
