Late 18th C. Rare Pair Of English Lustre Candlesticks
-
Description
Rare pair of blue glass and ormolu lustre George III candlesticks in their original and untouched condition. The circular blue glass cylinders are mounted on an ormolu base with beaded decoration cast into the circumference (top and bottom). The classical hand gilt decoration to the blue glass depicts Grecian goddess and foliage/floral borders in three different poses on each candlabra. One resembles female Goddess with a lyre; another with floral and fruit subject; and the third is reading with "ships" subject matter. There is some rubbing to the "ships" and Goddess subject matter on one of the candlabras (see images). The crystal drip pan is mounted atop a cut glass pineapple shaped support, ending in a six pronged holder for the single tear drop crystals with eyelet which are mounted on each of the six ends.
Rare to find a pair of these candlesticks because of likely breakage to the glass.
