French 19th Century Directoire Full Bed Frame

Description
A French 19th century bed from the Directoire period with a warm gray and French blue color scheme. Both the headboard and the footboard have a low and wide pitch across the top to form a kind of pediment recalling Neoclassical architecture. Four turned wood posts at the corners are similarly decorated with alternating dark and light bands with geometric details for graphic contrast. Loss of pigment consistent with age and use but not at all detracting from the effect. Made before standardized mattress sizes, this bed is closer to a Twin or European Small Double.
