Made from the famed ‘Gallia’ alloy which allowed Christofle’s silversmiths to experiment with bold and avant-garde designs, it is easy to see why, in the 1930s, Luc Lanel chose to collaborate. Every element is expertly proportioned: from the beveled mirrored glass, with a small, balanced handle matching its hinges; to the tapered, stepped, rectangular base. The refined, geometrical style which characterises Luc Lanel’s work is evident throughout, and joining the clean lines of the column supports are two impeccable, spherical finials, rare to see intact: the perfect counterpoint in the carefully considered form of a superb Art Deco design.
