The era’s design ethos is evident in this floor lamp, as mid-century lighting fixtures are characterised by their sleek silhouettes and geometric shapes. The essentially modern look is achieved through the shape and mix of materials. The piece’s metal tube body is cylindrical, widening at the bottom to securely connect the lamp to the tripod base. The base’s design ensures stability on two levels. Not only is the tripod base a functional alternative to the classic round base, allowing the floor lamp secure footing even on uneven floors, but the choice of material increases stability. Brass was the mid-century era’s ultimate material in terms of lighting manufacture. Along with being corrosion-resistant and durable, withstanding the test of time and fulfilling its purpose of securely stabilising the lamp, the metal also fulfills an aesthetic purpose, being easy to maintain and developing a beautiful patina over time. The golden tones of the brass pair perfectly with the copper-coloured body to envelop a room in a warm, inviting glow. The robust body is balanced by an off-white shallow drum shade with visible fabric grains, which diffuses the light and further accentuates the cosy feeling offered by the piece.
