Created in 1980, this 18K gold and diamond necklace was designed by Angela Cummings and made by Tiffany & Co. It is designed as a series of cushion-shape slightly-bombé gold links of varying dimensions, highlighted by three pavé-set diamond bars. With its interplay of unexpected rhythmic and counterbalanced forms and visual textures, while also soft and easy to wear, this streamlined necklace intrigues the eye.

Some of Cummings most popular designs reference pure geometry, but they are enhanced and enlivened by her juxtaposition of regularity and predictability with asymmetry. In some of her inlaid cuffs and necklaces, motifs of complex and voluminous blossoms are convincingly realized in colorful and shaded carved hardstones and corals, yet they are smoothly and neatly confined within two dimensional gold mountings. In this necklace, regular square, rectangular, and bar forms follow a mysterious rhythm around the perfectly circular form.
