Description
Magnificent golden mid century modernist wall mirror - attributed to Max Welz - from the period around the 1940s in Vienna/ Austria. The elaborately crafted, deep wooden frame impresses with its elegantly curved lines and a shining gilt surface, showing a lovely patina. A highly decorative and unusual shaped mid-century modern wall mirror coming in absolute great original condition.
About the company of Max Welz: The frame and strip factory Max Welz gained its fame - especially in the interwar period - through its collaboration with the most important artists of the famous Wiener Werkstaette such as Josef Hoffmann, Dagobert Peche or Otto Prutscher. This resulted in magnificent, richly gilded mirror frames which are reaching highest prices on the art market nowadays. The very successful collaboration between members of the Welz family in several generations with well-known designers of the interwar but also post-war period, such as Oswald Haerdtl and Alfred Soulek, makes the story of this renowed Austrian frame factory still very interesting until today. -
