Description
An Exceptional French Ormolu and Vernis Martin Kingwood Commode, Attributed to Henry Dasson, C. 1870
This remarkable commode cabinet epitomizes the elegance and craftsmanship of the Belle Époque period. Attributed to the renowned cabinetmaker Henry Dasson, the cabinet features an opulent design raised upon striking ormolu hoof feet adorned with intricately chased acanthus leaves, leading to superb ormolu fillets along the sides. The cabinet is further crowned with a luxurious rouge marble top, beautifully complementing the intricate ormolu mounts below.
Flanking the cabinet are exceptional scrolled ormolu mounts, masterfully depicting richly detailed and expressive bearded satyrs, a hallmark of Dasson's artistry.
The two front doors open to reveal a spacious interior with a single shelf reflecting meticulous attention to detail. Each door and side panel showcases enchanting hand-painted vernis martin panels, exquisitely detailed and retaining their vibrant original colors, adding an air of charm and refinement to the piece.
This commode is a testament to the unparalleled artistry and sophistication of 19th-century French design, making it a perfect centerpiece for the most discerning collector or connoisseur of fine antiques.
