Frattini graduated in architecture from the Milan Polytechnic in 1953.
He opened his professional studio in Milan, after working in the studio of his teacher and mentor Gio Ponti. His collaboration with Cesare Cassina for his eponymous company began in 1954, followed by collaborations with many other industrialists, such as Bernini, Arteluce, Acerbis, Fantoni, Artemide, Luci, Knoll, Lema and others.
He was a board member of the Milan Triennale. A great connoisseur of handcrafted wood, he forged a long and fruitful professional partnership with the master craftsman Pierluigi Ghianda.
Here the Sofa Model 872, designed by Gianfranco Frattini in 1957, that embodies the inseparable fusion of form and material in the renowned Italian designer’s aesthetic concept. The visual lightness of the solid structure in powder coated or chrome steel artfully balances the sophisticated artisan craftsmanship in the hand-tufted seat and backrest, upholstered in leather. The wood feet, crafted in stained ash, emphasize the constructive and aesthetic attention to detail characteristic of Frattini’s work.
